These evacuation procedures apply when you are at your residence. If you are elsewhere in town at the time of an evacuation (e.g. work, school), follow evacuation procedures at those locations.

TSUNAMI EVACUATION

  • If your residence is located less than 20 metres above sea level (indicated by the light grey area on the map) and a tsunami warning is issued, evacuate to the closest location above 20 metres. If time permits, evacuation officials may direct you to a location indicated for your sector (e.g. residents in Charlotte Central need to evacuate to Forestry Hill (3rd Avenue) in order to be able to provide emergencies services more efficiently to the evacuated residents.

OTHER EMERGENCY EVACUATIONS

  • There may be other reasons for partial or complete evacuation of the town (e.g. earthquake, dangerous goods spill, fire involving toxic chemicals). In such cases, follow the instructions of evacuation officials, who will direct you to one of four "Safe Zones" indicated on the map, or to another safe location.

REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR EMERGENCY KIT
